During our bleaching treatment, external discolourations of the tooth enamel are removed. A distinction can be made between extrinsic and intrinsic tooth discolouration. Extrinsic discolourations are caused by external influences, such as deposits. Intrinsic discolouration affects the inside of the tooth, i.e. the enamel or the dentin.
The dentin determines the colour of your tooth. Often, however, the dentin is not white, but slightly darker. How dark the dentin is is genetically determined.
Depending on the structure of the enamel, it is possible for the dark dentin to shine through the enamel, resulting in intrinsic discolouration. So if you have darker dentin, you may not get the desired result with our whitening.
